Moodle is a free and open-source learning management system. It helps the various educators in conceptualizing their courses, course structures and curriculum in order to facilitate interaction with online students.

  • Following data is mandatory to use the service and is retrieved from your Home Organisation:
    • eduPersonPrincipalName: your identifier in your home organisation, generally like firstname.lastname@organisation.ext
    • email: your email address
    • sn: your family name
    • givenName: your firstname
  • Following data is retrieved from yourself:
    • your profile: preferred language, photo (optionnal), biography, phonetic name pronouciation, etc.
    • logs of your activities, produced by the Moodle platform (action date, type of action (course viewed, quiz submit, etc.))
    • logs of your activities, produced by the web server software
Purpose of the processing of personal data Your home organisation data is used to create your local account on our platform:
  • eduPersonPrincipalName is used as unique identifier,
  • sn and givenName are used to presentation purpose,
  • email is used to send you notifications or messages from the platform in course activities context.  
Moodle logs are used:
  • by teachers and administration staff: to perform teaching and evaluation tasks
  • by administrators: to perform monitoring tasks and to produce global (ie. non-user centric) statistics.
Server logs are used to monitor the service and for user assistance.
Third parties to whom personal data is disclosed Personal data (email, firstname, lastname) can be disclosed to third parties, if such activities are present in your courses :
  • Zoom: for webconferencing activity
  • Wooclap: for live and dynamic interactions with teacher
How to access, rectify and delete the personal data Personal data collected can be requested to moodle AT u-bordeaux DOT fr
Data retention Moodle activity logs are deleted after 365 days.
Web server software logs are deleted after 1 month.
Data Protection Code of Conduct Your personal data will be protected according to the Code of Conduct for Service Providers, a common standard for the research and higher education sector to protect your privacy.
